Dear Skate Oakville Family,
COVID-19 has meant that we are all living in uncertain times at the moment, and while we hope that change will be just around the corner, we know that we will have to endure the rules in place around self-isolation for a while longer yet. We miss our Skate Oakville Family and wanted to reach out to let you know that we are thinking of you and can’t wait to see everyone back at the rink.
For our membership, we appreciate that many of you face your own insecurities and concerns, and we sincerely hope everyone is staying safe and healthy and managing as well as can be in these unprecedented times. For our skaters, we know you are anxiously awaiting your return to the ice, your routines, and the camaraderie that our Club brings. We all miss being at the rink – our home away from home!
It has been heartening to see so many skaters participate in the weekly contests organized by our Office team. A little fun and light relief makes this time a little brighter, and we congratulate those lucky winners to date and hope that our skaters continue to join in the fun in the upcoming weeks. We love receiving your submissions and it helps us to all feel connected.
We would also like to acknowledge those coaches and skaters who are participating in the Zoom classes and webinars or watching our skaters own YouTube videos each week. As a Club, we have world class coaches and skaters and are the envy of many, and many other coaches have directed their skaters to our resources. Our resources, though, are primarily for our Club and our hope is that that most of our Skate Oakville skaters will be able to take advantage of the offerings in order to keep up their flexibility, cardio and strength for when we eventually return to the ice.
As Brian Orser said in his interview a couple of weeks ago, this is a great time to think about new music options, or to try to increase your flexibility. Do not worry that your jumps or skills will all be gone when you get back on the ice, just focus on staying active. Let’s focus on being healthy and ready to go for that moment when you can step back on the ice. Until we know when we can reopen, please follow these words of advice, and remember that Skate Oakville is here for you.
Finally, we would like to thank the Office staff, Program Directors, Coaches and the Board of Directors for keeping our Skate Oakville Community connected and for all they are doing to support our skaters during this extended off-ice period. We are all in this together and Skate Oakville will come out of this stronger than ever.
President and the Board of Directors – Skate Oakville
