Coaching Experience, Skating Background and Additional Training:

Mark specializes in teaching competitive ice dance and skating skills, turns and footwork with all skaters.Over the past 20 years Mark has worked with many top level competitive free skaters, pair teams, dance teams, and synchronized teams from Juvenile to Senior.Mark is a co-inventor of an I.S.U. compulsory dance, the Midnight Blues. In 2004 Mark moved to Alberta and started his own skating school, Skate West. He developed this school into the major ice dance training centre in Calgary within two years. Mark has successfully coached teams to sectional champions, challenge medalists and teams competing at both Junior and Senior National Championships. Additionally, Mark enjoys working with star skate skaters on dance and skills tests, from Preliminary to Diamonds, with a pass rate of 98%. He is also a certified national dance technical specialist for Skate Canada.
Mark was a competitive freeskater and international ice dance competitor. He represented Canada at 3 Junior Worlds Championships (4th place) and 7 Senior Internationals in ice dance. He was a Novice and Junior Ice Dance Champion of Canada.

Coaching Philosophy:

Mark’s philosophy towards coaching is “Skating is a journey; competition is 1% and training is 99% of your career. If skaters skate for themselves and enjoy the process they will have more fun and be more successful, no matter what their level!”
