Competitive Levels and Criteria  

The Competitive Singles programs are by invitation only. Should you be interested in pursuing competitive skating, please speak to your coach directly. Skaters from outside our club will likely need to arrange a meeting before being offered a spot in the program, please email office@skateoakville.ca and we will forward this on to the appropriate coach. Skaters will participate in specific training days each week. Skaters must be invited to the next level of programming before being able to register. Below you can find the qualifications for the 2020-2021 Fall and Winter seasons.

SELECT COMPETITIVE PROGRAM – by invitation

Skaters in this program will participate in 5 training days per week, which include on-ice and-off ice instruction. On ice classes may include group lesson time as well as individual skating time for private lessons and program run throughs. Off ice classes will be designed under the direction of Meagan Duhamel. World Champion and Olympic medalist, Meagan combines her knowledge, passion and experience to create a comprehensive off ice training to the competitive program. Activities will include fitness, strength and conditioning, flexibility, dance and other classes.

Skaters must:

  • Skate on a minimum of 4 Select Competitive sessions
  • Participate in the off-ice program

Selection criteria:

  • Skaters must be landing double axel and higher
  • Skaters must compete at the 2023 Skate Ontario Championships
  • Skaters may be competing Internationally
  • Skaters may be invited by a Competitive Director or the Executive Director

 

ELITE COMPETITIVE PROGRAM – by invitation

Skaters in this program will participate in 4 training days per week, additional competitive freeskate sessions and the off ice program. On ice classes may include group lesson time as well as individual skating time for private lessons and program run throughs. Off ice classes will be designed under the direction of Meagan Duhamel. World Champion and Olympic medalist, Meagan combines her knowledge, passion and experience to create a comprehensive off ice training to the competitive program. Activities will include fitness, strength and conditioning, flexibility, dance and other classes.

Skaters must:

  • Skate on a minimum of 4 Elite Competitive Program sessions
  • Participate in the off-ice program

Selection criteria:

  • 5 different double jumps and a double/double combination (2F or 2Lz must be included in the combination)
  • Skaters competing at Juvenile or Higher in the 2022-23 season
  • Skaters may be invited by a Competitive Director or the Executive Director

 

ADVANCED COMPETITIVE PROGRAM – by invitation

Skaters in this program will participate in 3 training days per week, additional competitive freeskate sessions and the off ice program. On ice classes may include group lesson time as well as individual skating time for private lessons and program run throughs. Off ice classes will be designed under the direction of Meagan Duhamel. World Champion and Olympic medalist, Meagan combines her knowledge, passion and experience to create a comprehensive off ice training to the competitive program. Activities will include fitness, strength and conditiong, flexibility, dance and other classes.

Skaters must:

  • Skate on a minimum of 3 Advanced Competitive Program sessions
  • Participate in the off-ice program

Selection criteria:

  • Skaters landing an axel
  • Skaters working on all double jumps and able to land 2 different double jumps
  • Skaters competing at STAR 4 or higher
  • Skating in the summer program for a minimum of 2 weeks
  • Skaters must compete in a minimum of 4 competitions a year.
  • Skaters may be invited by a Competitive Director or the Executive Director

 

JUNIOR ACADEMY – by invitation

The Junior Academy Program is offered 3 days per week. Program sessions include on and off ice instruction. All sessions will be group coaching by members of our competitive coaching team. Off ice classes will include off ice fitness , off ice jumps and other activities that will enhance the skater's training. Besides these training days, skaters are expected to be participating in other sessions to complement their development.

Skaters must:

  • Skate on at least 1 other STAR session

Selection criteria:

  • Skaters should be under 8 years of age
  • Skaters landing all single jumps and starting to work on axels
  • Skaters working with a private coach
